Flea Facts

A female flea lays between 300 and 800 eggs in her lifetime. The flea larvae hatch from their eggs after 1 to 12 days, living near the areas where your pets lie. It takes from 7 to 15 days--or even several months--for the larvae form cocoons and pupate. Adult fleas take anywhere from a week to several months to emerge from their cocoons.

Important questions to consider

1. Has the property recently been treated by a pest control firm or the home owner?
2. Does anyone in the household have an illness or allergies?
3. Have actual fleas been seen on the pet or person?

The following items need to be done prior to the treatment

1. Vacuum or shampoo your carpet and furniture.
2. Discard vacuum cleaner bag and discard or wash pet bedding.
3. Sweep and mop floors, especially under beds and in closets.
4. Cover your aquariums and unplug the air pumps. We are not responsible for your fish.
5. Mow the lawn if the grass is high, water the lawn, and clean up dog feces.
6. Remove your pets' food and water containers and litter boxes.
7. Remove all toys from your floor and yard.
8. Make sure we have access to the subarea, garage, and yard.
9. Treat pets on the day of service if possible. We recommend using a veterinarian, such as the Small Animal Hospital (684-1530) or the Canyon Crest Animal Hospital (684-2121).
10. Keep all people and pets off the property for 4 hours.
11. Payment is due at the time of service.

The following items need to be done after the treatment

1. Keep children and pets off treated areas until the treatment has dried. This will take approximately 4 hours.
2. Ventilate your house prior to occupancy.
3. Adult fleas may be observed after the treatment. The elimination of the fleas should not be expected for several days.
4. Vacuum frequently. Ordinary vacuums cannot pick up the chemicals we use but can pick up adult fleas still hopping around.
